Character Profile
Name: Ganondorf Dragmire
Series: Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker (OU)
Age: Physically, he appears to be in his thirties. In fact, he’s hundreds years old.
Gender: Male
Canon Point: Right after Link obtained the Triforce of Courage
Background Link: Ganondorf- The Legend of Zelda Wiki
The timeline goes: Skyward Sword – The Minish Cap – Four Swords – Ocarina of Time – The Wind Waker
Abilities: First off, all of those abilities take into account the Triforce of Power. It is a mythical relic left behind by the Goddesses who created the universe, and can be held only by a few people. Even without the Triforce he is a monster of power. Considering a lot of those abilities are god-like or borderline god-like (such as immortality), they will probably be reduced at times or for events. The abilities non-fitting the tower or forbidden will be lost as well, even if they’re listed here.
Near-Immortality
The most notable thing about Ganondorf is his unnatural lifespan, his amazing ability to avoid death. As it is, he just won’t die. The only weapons that can inflict damages to Ganondorf are the Light/Silver Arrows and the Master Sword. To finish him off, only the Master Sword can deliver a killing blow. Alas, the Triforce of Power palliates for this little inconvenient, and immunizes him to the Master Sword. He can still be harmed, but no longer killed, even by the sword of evil bane.
At best, he will look dead for a couple minutes, before resurfacing and continuing the fight. He can be killed, it'll just take powerful characters and good weapons.
Magic
Ganondorf has always been a great magician, being able to cast spells and curses before even getting the Triforce. Amongst other things, he can fly with ease and make other things fly (including enormous castles). He can send dark waves to his opponents, smashing them into a wall if they aren’t heavy enough. Because of the evil emanating from him, small or pure beings such as fairy can’t even get close to him. He can teleport and teleport other beings, as well as create illusions.
He has also shown the ability to mind-control people, even though this only works on people with some evil already ingrained in them, weak-willed and/or sharing his blood.
Curses
Special sorts of magic Ganondorf can make use of are the curses. How the curses work is unclear, and whether he can cast them at will is unknown. When he cursed the Great Deku Tree, it ultimately led to the death of the tree, in spite of Link’s best efforts to save him. It is unnecessary to mention the death of the Great Deku Tree was a slow and painful process.
When he is in an especially good mood, Ganondorf has proved to be able to curse the entire world, or at the very least his curse covered enormous distance. Such an occurrence was when he cursed the Great Sea. The Sun rose no longer, more and more monsters appeared and an endless storm ravaged the seas and the Islands.
The various curses have no limits in time- Indeed, similarly to most of his magic, they will not fade with time, they may grow weaker but on a timescale humans can’t measure. They will not end unless Ganondorf puts an end to the curse, or unless an heroic soul breaks the curse.
Fighting Skills
His physical abilities do not suffer the comparison with his magical abilities. Highly trained to fight with dual blades, Ganondorf, in spite of his large size, can move swiftly on a battlefield, jumping high distances with ease. He can easily reflect any attack using his blade and will attack not only with his blades, but with his legs and fists as well.
Phantom Ganon
Ganondorf can conjure, anytime he wishes, Phantom Ganon, a lifeform he shaped after his likeness with similar, yet weaker powers. He uses the same attacks than Ganondorf does, and uses a large sword. He is subject to the same weakness than Ganondorf, with a little twist. The Master Sword cannot kill him, only the Light/Silver Arrows can deliver a killing blow.
Because they are subject to the same weaknesses, Ganondorf will send Phantom Ganon to test those daring to defy him; if Phantom Ganon suffers no injury it means his opponents haven’t got any means to harm him.
Transformation
His most impressive power is revealed when Ganondorf reaches his limits: his transformation into a demonic beast. To differentiate his human form and beast form, the human form is generally called Ganondorf and the beast form simply Ganon. His strength in this form is ten time that of his human form, but on the downside he cannot use as much magic as his human form. It is not a stretch to imagine in this form Ganon could destroy entire buildings with ease.
Personality: Ganondorf is a very cultivated man, born in a Desert and King of the Gerudo. Every 100 years a male Gerudo is born, and he is destined to become their King. Having been raised with this in mind, Ganondorf received higher-end education and was taught magic by his step-mothers. He has manners and being very charismatic, he knows how to speak in convincing ways, so well that he could even gain the trust of the King of the great kingdom of Hyrule. Because of his status and of his ambitions, Ganondorf is generally clothed in ways that reflects his royalty, albeit mixed with elements of the Gerudo culture, which he greatly admires. At first sight and during a casual discussion, Ganondorf could appear to be a gentleman, a devoted ruler with noble purpose.
Nevertheless, this is nothing but a façade, and he will drop the mask at the first occasion. Ganondorf is power-hungry and downright malevolent, a firm believer that the ends justify the means. He craves power; he wishes to rule over all and believes the way things are is unacceptable, that his ways are superior. Deep inside he is convinced to be right, but he easily understands that for all intent and purpose he is the incarnation of evil. Because he opposes the Gods, because he opposes the established order, he assumes being called evil, he enjoys it even, going so far as to be called Great King of Evil. He doesn’t want to be anything like the “good” people. They rule by being popular, by being loved? He rules through sheer power and desires to be feared by his people. The only exceptions to that rule are the Gerudo, who for many of them recognize Ganondorf as a great ruler and follow him not out of fear, but out of respect and admiration.
Indeed, Ganondorf didn’t always crave for power for bad reasons. His ambition to rule over all is born from good intentions. Born in the desert, he witnessed his people suffer due to the harsh condition in a desert. The cold at night, hot during the day, the lack of food. People dying because they worked too much, because they didn’t find a place to sleep at night, because there wasn’t any food left to them. He was born to rule over people he knew from that start condemned to live a life of misery forever, riddled with uncertainty. They were hard-workers, their civilization had created wonders, yet they were rewarded only by death and misery.
In the meantime, the people of Hyrule enjoyed prosperity, they didn’t have to do much work for the green field of Hyrule to bring them food, the climate was moderate and the people enjoyed their lives, never needing to make any effort to survive. Working wasn’t an obligation, it was a hobby. It is unsurprising Ganondorf came to despise those people, a bunch of lazy people, wasting the potential of their land, living meaningless lives, while his people, hard-worked and ingenuous were condemned to misery. But above all, those he despised were the Gods, those Gods everyone admired, prayed to. Those Gods who had given the Hylians a prosperous land and who had condemned his people to live in misery.
And while he strayed away, while he gave in to evil ways, his people were granted what he desired. Under his rule, while the Hylians and other species of Hyrule were chased, sacrificed and terrorized, the Gerudo were allowed to live their lives freely, many of Hyrule’s resources directed to them. While a lot of them may despise the way he went about it, they were all very loyal to him and admired him for having gone so far in his purpose to grant them an easier life. His admiration for his culture is obvious; he often adorns the symbol of his people on his clothes, in his castles. One of his qualities is that, all of his people being women, he thinks very highly of the female gender. As far as he is concerned, the pre-conceived thoughts that men are superior to women is nonsense.
From his admiration and devotion to his people, to his culture, Ganondorf thinks very lowly of other people and culture. Rarely does anyone come out as hard-worker to him, as deserving to have a good, comfortable life. He knows what misery is, he knows who deserves to have a comfortable life and most people don’t. As such, they’ll receive little more than his contempt and if he is to rule over them, they will have to live as slave or die. It doesn’t mean he cannot see value in an opponent, he can even show manners and some respect to someone he thinks is worthy enough to defy him. Such people though, are rare, very rare.
To reach power, Ganondorf used dark magic in what he was skilled, tried to obtain the Triforce and broke any moral barrier standing before him. Starting with good intention, Ganondorf lost sight of his real purpose and embraced his status of Great King of Evil, ending up desiring power for the sake of power. He still wishes to help his people, but his mind is now clouded by his ambitions, by his lust for power, by his hatred for the Gods, his hatred for the Hylians, his hatred for the Hero chosen by the Goddesses, who stood against him and stopped him. Consumed by anger, hatred and lust for power, it is the natural state of mind for Ganondorf. This doesn’t mean he is unable to think rationally or is an idiot, quite the contrary.
In his youth, it may have been the case. He was more impulsive, full of himself and confident power would prevail in the end. This is what caused the Triforce to split; this is what caused his downfall. Having spent centuries sealed in the Dark World, then many more centuries sealed in the Flooded Hyrule, Ganondorf got much wiser, and rather than be submerged by his anger, lust and hatred, he learned to channel it all. He is wiser and evolved into a much better strategist, learning from his mistakes. The sages sealed him? Ganondorf killed the Sages as soon as he resurfaced. He even decided to take risks, allowing the Hero to go far enough to withdraw the Master Sword. He could have killed the Hero before he took the weapon that had the power to kill him. But by letting him do, the Hero broke the seal over Hyrule, his armies and his magic. One could say it is a risky move, one requiring courage.
As it is, in the end Ganondorf is now a much more balanced individual, relying heavily on Power, but believing as well in the two other values carried by the Triforce, Courage and Wisdom. Courage because he takes risks, because he puts his own life at stake to reach his purpose, wisdom because he puts a lot more thought in his plans, because he learns from his mistakes, because he is much more patient.
